Tips for delegates

We will be working closely with LTU Generations, the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability) to ensure that AMUNC2012 not only achieves its own sustainability vision but also that of the host institution. AMUNC2012 is grateful for the generous support being provided by Generations.

What you can do to reduce your carbon footprint while attending AMUNC2012:

  • Offset your travel emissions through an accredited carbon-offsetting scheme or through the airline itself (many airlines have carbon offsetting options).
  • Reduce waste by, for example, using a reusable coffee cup or water bottle, and eliminating any unnecessary paper use.
  • When buying coffee, buy fair-trade certified beans. Most coffee shops on campus at La Trobe University have fair-trade options. La Trobe University was awarded Fair Trade accreditation in March 2010 by the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealnd (FTAANZ) and was only the third Australian university to achieve this.
  • Eat more plant-based foods. Eating a plant-based diet is one of the easiest and most effective ways of reducing your carbon footprint. Why not try vegetarian for a week? There are vegetarian (and vegan) options available on-campus, in the city, and at all of our catered functions. If you’re not a vegetarian but would like to try it out for the week, simply write the dietary requirement on your delegate registration form.
